This decision was made as a team earlier this year and is not one we take lightly, but ultimately, it is a choice rooted in our realization that development timelines would not align with our passion and sense of urgency. All staff will move on to new opportunities that continue to move Vermont forward.
Over the past two years, we are proud to have advanced projects that moved us closer to our mission: creating a viable Vermont where you can live, work, learn and play. We built a team and an intention of creating a physical space to house entrepreneurs and the programming that would draw them to Vermont from across the country. We nurtured local and national strategic partnerships and designed keystone events to catalyze the larger ecosystem. We invited investors and mentors from outside the state to experience, engage with and support our homegrown entrepreneurs through programs like Microsoft For Startups. We challenged our peers to think differently, push boundaries and strive for positive systemic change by bringing people together at the Vermont Investors Summit. We participated in projects with College of St. Joseph and Green Mountain College that addressed an unnerving trend in higher education and could have profound impacts on communities across the state.
Collectively, we still firmly believe a central innovation district is both necessary and feasible, and to those ends we are excited for Hula to open and thrive, creating a similar place and space that will undoubtedly transform Vermont.
As Vermont, alongside the rest of the world, addresses the uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to be impressed by, in awe of, and grateful for our state's ability to pull together and work towards the future. We are seeing innovation and entrepreneurship from coworking spaces, local businesses, restaurants, citizens, and leaders across the state. It is this Vermont that makes us proud and excited for the future of the Green Mountain State.
We know Vermont has the possibility to cultivate young professionals, to scale businesses, and to retain college graduates. But more work needs to be done. We celebrate all the good things that ARE happening and challenge our community to seek-out unexpected collaborators to create an even more vibrant ecosystem. We invite local partners to take ownership of and carry on the relationships and programming for which we laid the groundwork to support thriving social entrepreneurial enterprises. We encourage like-minded groups across our great State to work together so that our common goals of advancing Vermont’s economy become a near-term reality. Above all else, we hope to leave a positive impression on this important movement and continue to individually contribute to the place we all love to call home.
The Vermont Innovation Commons team would like to say thank you for the passion, curiosity, and support we received from communities across the state.
Though we will no longer be a part of this development, we wholeheartedly believe this project is critical for Burlington and Vermont as a whole. Eric and the whole Farrell Properties team have a long-term vision for this development that will significantly impact the housing and commercial real estate markets. This neighborhood will add much-needed vibrancy between the Old North End and the New North End. We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with the team in some small capacity and look forward to all that is to come for Cambrian Rise.
Vermont Innovation Commons and Vermont Works Management are proud of our work with The College of St Joseph. After completing the feasibility study, we felt so strongly about the viability of that campus that we went so far as to make a financial offer. While we continue to support the project vision and the entire staff of CSJ, our offer was not accepted and we are not a legal party to any transactions moving forward. To the Rutland community, thank you for letting us be a part of this exploration and journey. It was inspiring to work with a group of individuals so willing to collaborate and eager for positive change.
